As an avid hiker and outdoorsman, let me start off with my favorite feature; the Altimeter.  I was simply pleased to find out that it knows altitude, knowing its not the first watch to do so, but I was even more impressed to find that it RECORDS this data too!  This is great especially if you are hiking for fitness and you want to know how high up you have traveled, or you are out exploring the wilderness, using this in conjunction with a topographical map.  It is advertized as a sports watch, but I see many uses extending into the military world.

Coming across the Sunto Core watch for the first time, I was intrigued how there could be so many features yet be so simple at the same time.  Well you see it yourself, it looks refined and streamlined.  You would be surprised to hear that is also an altimeter, compass, and barometer.  Its the watch Inspector Gadget would have.

When braving the wild, it is essential to adapt with the weather.  The weather encountered in the mountains is often unpredictable and unassuming, with the exception of air pressure. A drop in barometric pressure is a very good indicator of an oncoming storm.  Air pressure it not something many can sense or are aware of, although some people claim to get stuffy/runny noses when this happens.  The Suunto core not only features a barometer, but also alarms when it senses a sudden change in air pressure, which can help you get to shelter or build a fire before its too late.
